Ashburton Sports Turf Trust
The Hockey Turf located in the picturesque Ashburton Domain is the base and home of hockey in Mid Canterbury, and is administered by the Ashburton Sports Turf Trust and is managed and maintained by the Mid Canterbury Hockey Association.
The facility was opened in 1993 after substantial fundraising by the hockey community; a pavilion and changing rooms were added in 2008 and after earthquake damage the artificial carpet and substrate was replaced in time for the 2011 hockey season.
Stage 1 of the facility upgrade was completed in early 2025 with the installation of 24 new LED lights which means more energy efficiency, better and brighter lights for the players and officials, and faster to turn on and much more user friendly. Stage 2 of the upgrade was replacing the turf carpet which was completed in May 2026 at a cost of $330k, this was made possible by turf levies contributed by clubs over many seasons, turf sponsorships, and significant grants from the Lion Foundation and the Bobby Foundation.
