Ashburton Sports Turf Trust

The Hockey Turf located in the picturesque Ashburton Domain is the base and home of hockey in Mid Canterbury, and is administered by the Ashburton Sports Turf Trust and is managed and maintained by the Mid Canterbury Hockey Association.

The facility was opened in 1993 after substantial fundraising by the hockey community; a pavilion and changing rooms were added in 2008 and after earthquake damage the artificial carpet and substrate was replaced in time for the 2011 hockey season. Stage 1 of the facility upgrade has been completed in early 2025 with the installation of 24 new LED lights which means more energy efficiency, better and brighter lights for the players and officials, and faster to turn on and much more user friendly.  The next stage is replacing the turf carpet which is planned for summer 2025/2026. This will be at a significant cost and to help fund this, new sponsorship signage is being erected on the turf perimeter fences and light poles, with a major fundraiser set to take place early spring.

The total cost of the upgrade will be approximately $460,000 (excl GST) and with approximately $100,000 left to raise, we are on track for the planned replacement dates.
